We made landfall on the 23rd after an overall smooth and uneventful passage from Sint Maarten. Since then we’ve been cruising around to various island groups and making the most out of every anchorage. Cayos Holandes, Cayos Coco Banderos, and Cayos Lemones are some of the places where we have anchored. The snorkeling here is absolutely incredible and the reef seems to be very healthy. In the video you can see a massive school of little feeder fish, Pica Pica is what the locals call it, which is indicative of a healthy ecosystem. All types of other fish were there hunting them from below, with massive Pelicans diving in the water from above to scoop up a mouthful of them, it was pretty fascinating to watch.

The Guna people we have encountered so far have been extremely welcoming and kind to us, and you can tell they enjoy sharing their culture. Lee and myself went on a Beer run into Guna village and ended up getting a ride from “the most famous man in Guna Yala”. He took us to the store he runs and hooked us up big time. He gave us a tour of the island which included the school, the aqueduct, various homes, a Catholic Church and their own Guna church, of which I have attached a picture. Most of the time we are not close to any villages, so the Guna people come out in their dugout canoes to sell fresh produce and fish/lobster. Yesterday we bought a whole bunch of lobster that will be on the grill today.

Not a bad way to spend the holidays!
